Seasonal Cooking
You might think this is strange title for a blog about home jobs, but think about it….. there are many different times of the year when specific food items are relevant and sometimes people just don’t have the time or know how to make these items but you do and could.
What I am talking about is making home made Christmas puddings and mince pies at Christmas time, Easter treats at Easter, Pancakes on Pancake Day and so on. You don’t have to limit the seasonal foods that you offer to one religion or sect. Look at all of the different special days that are celebrated around the world, from St Patrick’s Day in Ireland to Bastille Day in France to American Independence or Thanksgiving in the US. For all of these days there are specific foods that are traditionally eaten.
If you like to cook, you can set yourself up as a supplier of themed foods and traditional foods for those special days. On Thanksgiving Day which is always the last Thursday in November, supply Turkey and cranberry sauce, or just the cranberry sauce. St Patrick’s day is all about green, find all the green foods that you can and make them up and market as a special for St Patrick’s, you can even make green cakes and green cookies. The potential is endless for what you can do and supply. It is best to approach this idea with a website and take orders over the web so at least you have an idea of the sort of quantities you will need. Make some samples well in advance of the date you want to advertise, take photos of them and post them to the web.
As I said the potential for this is endless and as I write this I am getting quite excited myself and might even have a go, I love cooking and for the majority I am good at it, so why not?
